Dear parents and members of the school community,

It is with deep regret, shock and sadness that I write to inform you that on Tuesday evening our Head of Secondary School, Greg Smith, suffered a cardiac arrest while playing indoor soccer. Greg was taken by ambulance to hospital but was unable to be revived.

Please pray for Greg’s wife, Nicole, and their two boys, Liam and Ethan, during this difficult time as they are supported by their school and church communities.

During Period 1 this morning, students will pause normal classes to be supported by their class teachers and year coordinators. Our school psychologists and pastoral care team will be available to support students, staff and our school families as they process this devastating news.

Greg was a much loved and integral part of our school, a respected leader and was a great friend of mine who loved Jesus. The school has been greatly blessed by Greg’s servant hearted leadership and his loss will be deeply felt by the whole school community.

Menai Anglican Church will open this evening from 7pm until 8pm for a time of prayer and reflection, as we begin to process our grief.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Sincerely,

Brett Hartley
Principal
